The Department of Chemistry is committed to research and teaching since its inception in 2010. It is located in Academic Block-4A4 since May 23, 2015. Department has Research Lab (07), Computer Lab (01), Instrumentation Halls (02), PG Practical Lab (02), Teaching Classrooms (02), Girls Common Room (01), Eighty-seater Seminar Hall (01) and Conference Hall (01). The department started master’s in science (Chemistry) 2-year programme in 2010 and immersed with full time Ph. D. programme in 2012, Integrated M. Sc. (Chemistry) 5-year programme in 2013 and Integrated M. Sc. B. Ed. (Chemistry as Major) 3-year programme in 2015. Each programme follows choice-based credit system (CBCS) along with core courses and student evaluation composed of continuous assessment through semester examination. The Ph.D. programme in Chemistry aim to train the students with basic and cutting-edge research protocols. We have crossed traditional vertical boundaries of scientific disciplines in past 8-years of journey and emerged with drug designing, organometallic chemistry, bioorganic & bio-inorganic chemistry, materials chemistry, theoretical chemistry in line with gaining more strength towards asymmetric synthesis, heterocyclic/macrocyclic chemistry and organic spectroscopy. Presently, our research programme focuses on:

  • Organic and Heterocyclic Synthesis
  • Drug Design and synthesis of biologically active molecules
  • Synthetic Methodologies, Asymmetric Synthesis and Natural Product Synthesis
  • Organometallic Chemistry and Homogeneous Catalysis
  • Coordination & Bio-Inorganic Chemistry and Imaging Agent in Biology
  • Solar Energy Harvesting and Water Oxidation
  • Functional molecular materials: fabrication, properties, and applications
  • Nanowires, Superhydophobic Surfaces and optoelectronic
  • Nano-Materials, Thin films, Fibers and Catalysis
  • Molecular Dynamics simulation of Electrolytes and Interfaces

The department is funded by DST-FIST and faculty received research grants from various funding agencies such as CSIR, DST, UGC, etc.

Integrated M. Sc. Chemistry (5-Year)

A.

Objectives of the Program:

 

  • To create chemists with sound knowledge of all branches of Chemistry.

 

  • To impart basic concepts of other branches of science and also training in language skills.

 

 

B.

Program Outcomes:

 

  • Students graduating from Integrated M.Sc. Chemistry programme would be equipped with training on both academia as well as industrial jobs.

 

  • Students graduating from Integrated M.Sc. Chemistry programme would be expected to have an advanced level understanding of the following areas of Chemistry - Inorganic, Organic, Physical and Analytical Chemistry.

 

  • Students would be expected to compete for various National and International level exams such as NET-JRF, GATE, GRE, etc. 

 

  • Expected to possess a graduate-level understanding of the literature review methods applicable to all areas of research.

 

  • Students shall be able to communicate scientific results in writing and oral presentation.

 

  • Students would acquire the basic tools needed to carry out independent chemical research.
 
  • Students would be proficient in their specialized area of chemistry after completing an advanced research project.

C.

Intake and eligibility:  Intake - 25

 

Eligibility:

10 + 2 in Science Stream or equivalent of any recognized board in India with Chemistry as one of the optional subjects having minimum of 50% marks in aggregate for general category and 45% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates.

Integrated M. Sc. B. Ed. Chemistry as Major (3-year)

A.

Objectives of the Program:

 

  • To develop the communication skills and insights among the pupil teachers to transact the chemistry curriculum effectively.

 

  • To demonstrate the ability to synthesize, purify and characterize the compounds using advanced methodology and operate modern instruments.

B.

Program Outcomes:

 

  • Students graduating from Int. M.Sc. B.Ed. programme would be well qualified for teaching, research, and industrial jobs.

 

  • The students should be perfectly suitable to transfer the research interest to the forthcoming school and college students.

 

  • Develop clear to understanding to analyze and apply the relevance of the chemistry topics to current advances in research.

 

  • The students would also become a reflective practitioner, capable of translating theoretical perspectives into pedagogical practices.

 

  • The students develop an adaptability skill to work in teams as well as independently to deliver the outcomes effectively.

 

  • Students would be expected to compete for various National and International level exam such as NET-JRF, SLET, GATE, GRE, etc.

 

  • Students graduating from Int. M.Sc. B.Ed programme would be equipped with knowledge and skills to establish advanced chemistry practical laboratories in schools and colleges.

 

  • Students should be able to communicate scientific concepts effectively and impressively for learners.

C.

B.Sc. Degree or its equivalent from a recognized University with minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate for general category and 45% marks or equivalent grade for SC / ST / OBC / PWD candidates with Chemistry as one of the main subjects.

M. Sc. Chemistry (2-Year)

A.

Objectives of the Program:

 

  • To provide a research flavor to the courses, encouraging the students to aspire for a research career.

 

  • To make the students well-equipped to take up jobs in the academic as well as industrial sector.

B.

Program Outcomes:

 

  • Students graduating from M.Sc. Chemistry programme would be expected to have a strong basis of both fundamental and advanced concepts.

 

  • They would be expected to update with frontier fields of research.

 

  • The students would also have a deeper understanding about inter-disciplinary topics and would be more interested in taking up research in inter-disciplinary areas.

 

  • Students would be expected to compete for various National and International level exam such as NET-JRF, GATE, GRE, etc.

 

  • Students graduating from M.Sc. Chemistry programme would be expected to start their careers in research or in teaching in higher educational institutions

 

  • Interested students would also be well-equipped to join the chemical industry in either R & D or the process & manufacturing streams.

 

  • Students graduating from M.Sc. Chemistry programme can work effectively in teams as well as independently.

 

  • Students should be able to communicate scientific results, both written and oral, for specialized and non-specialized audiences.

Objectives of the Program:

 

  • To acquire advanced skills and knowledge in modern research methods and techniques. 

 

  • To enable the students to acquire specific skills and gain expertise in a frontier research field.

  • To provide hands-on training and generate expertise in modern instrumentation techniques.

 

  • To generate independent researchers that will be suitable for both industry and academia.

 

  • To inculcate the ability to become successful entrepreneurs.

  • Instrumentation halls (02) for the other sophisticated research instruments.  
  • Computer Lab established under DST-FIST Grant which is equipped with 15 Computers having quad-core processor, power-backup, networking and one HP Z840 workstation.
